Building a Theme Room

December 29, 2016 2 min read

One of the things you want to do is build a room around a central theme. It could be around a color, a person, an idea or even around a particular fashion style. Some people will base a theme on a favorite book, movie, video game, or even a time period. Of course this means getting furniture pieces that will fit into these themes, along with accents and other decor. If you have an idea, but are not sure how to implement it, this article will be your handy guide. We’ll help you choose furniture pieces, find the right decor, and bring the room together. Be prepared to be amazed at what you can create with your imagination and a little bit of help. Who knows, maybe your friends and family will want to copy what you just made.

Choosing the Theme

Probably the most simple thing to do for this project is this step, choosing the theme. This is completely up to you, and the project can be set aside for just a room or the whole entire house. Some people want to build a nursery that is baby themed, while others make their whole house black and white. It is completely up to you.

Getting the Furniture

If you’ve chosen a theme around color or a particular time period, this step will be more pertinent. If you’ve chosen a color, you’ll want to make sure the walls and carpets fit with what you want. Your furniture will also have to fit along these lines as well. If you’ve chosen a time period, perhaps the roaring 20s or after the World Wars, you will have to choose furniture from that era. The roaring 20s is known for their flare, jazz and sparkle, while the period after the World Wars features a lot of mid century furniture. If the furniture doesn’t fit the time period, you’ll have ruined the entire point of the theme. So do your research and choose the correct pieces.

Bringing it All Together

When you’ve gotten the major pieces completed, like installing the flooring, painting the walls, and acquiring the furniture, it is time to bring all of these pieces together. Lights, pillows, rugs, and even utensils will solidify your theme room. When it’s all done be sure to step back and look at your creation. If you want, take a picture and send it to your family to marvel. They’re sure to be jealous, and ask you how you did it.
